A Wider View of Creation

Does an infinite Creator have a favorite child, or is the entire cosmos a singular, interconnected masterpiece?

Human theology often suffers from an Earth-centered bias, assuming we are the sole focal point of divine attention. Yet, to a truly infinite Source, scale is irrelevant. Sustaining an entire galaxy requires no more effort than sustaining a single atom or a grain of sand. The vastness of space is not a mere backdrop for humanity; it has its own intrinsic value, reflecting divine joy, art, and order. Every particle in the cosmos is held in the exact same absolute focus.

A Shared Sacred Thread

This boundless view echoes deeply through the world’s spiritual history. We see it in the Franciscan and Celtic Christian celebrations of the Divine voice singing through nature. We find it in Islamic reflections on how the macrocosm mirrors the Creator’s infinite care and order. Indigenous traditions also hold that the earth and the stars form an interconnected, living, sacred web.

Expanding Our Lenses

That’s why our interfaith study group examines many world spiritual practices. By looking beyond a single tradition, we break free from localized lenses to obtain a deeper, more expansive view of Creation and the Creator.
Different faiths hold unique pieces of the cosmic puzzle, some emphasizing human relationship, others celebrating the sacredness of nature or the absolute infinity of the divine. Together, these diverse insights stretch our understanding, revealing a Creator far grander than any single human perspective can contain.
